The Louisiana Department of Civil Service (DSCS) has had, for many years, an extremely successful partnership with SSA Consultants of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. SSA Consultants is a public sector company that provides management and Human Resource consulting services to many private and public employers in this location. In matters that arise intermittently (rather than those that are an ongoing pail of our business), the DSCS has neither the time nor the personnel to do the research necessary to become familiar with new practices. The partnership with SSA Consultants allows the DSCS to focus the energies of its employees on matters that are currently critical or ongoing, while giving us the ability to obtain the latest information when needed through SSA Consultants. 

STRATEGIC PLANNING: FACT AND FICTION, USEFUL OR USELESS?

What is Strategic Planning? A written strategic plan, when done well, is both the road and the map itself.  Fact: Simply put, it is a tool an organization uses to clarify its vision of the future [The Map] and then lay down the clear, concrete actions needed to get there [The Road]. Fiction: What it should not be is a theoretical, pie in the sky, feel good company retreat that discusses vision without addressing the action necessary to get where you want to go.

LOUISIANA LAUNCHES NEW SEAFOOD CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

Baton Rouge, LA (Baton Rouge Business Report) — In an effort to strengthen the brand of Louisiana seafood, the state has started a new certification program. State officials say the Louisiana Certified Seafood Program is meant to make consumers think of Louisiana seafood in a "geographically based" way, similar to the way consumers now think of Maine's lobsters and Idaho's potatoes.
