William "Bill" Slaughter, PhD, MBA

PRESIDENT

As founder and president of SSA Consultants, Dr. William "Bill" Slaughter has helped guide the transformation and strategic direction of both public and private sector clients since 1970. He is a proven leader with deep expertise in developing strong client relationships, a passion for building outstanding client teams, and a disciplined focus on operations and execution.

Bill provides his expertise to clients through strategic planning, cultural transformation and integration, and development of effective management teams. He has applied his experience in facilitation, executive coaching and counseling, and development of effective management skills to successfully guide both small and large organizations along the path to successful and sustainable growth.

Bill actively serves some of the firm’s largest and most visible clients and is committed to delivering the insights clients need to address their most critical business challenges. As Project Director for Blueprint Louisiana, a government reform effort created and governed by business leaders across the state, he works with stakeholders and relevant stakeholder groups to achieve the effort’s long-term strategic objectives.

Prior to establishing SSA in 1970, Bill started his career in commercial banking at Louisiana National Bank. In SSA’s formative years, he served as a professor at Southeastern Louisiana University and Louisiana State University’s Division of Continuing Education. In 1978, he left teaching behind to pursue consulting fulltime. In 2009, after a 31-year hiatus from the classroom — and more than 40 years of consulting work under his belt — he accepted an invitation from the dean of LSU's E.J. Ourso College of Business to teach a course as an adjunct professor in the Flores MBA Program.

Bill holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in economics and finance from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, as well as a Master of Business Administration and doctorate in management from Louisiana State University.

Throughout his career, he has supported numerous civic, cultural, and business organizations. He serves on several boards including LSU’s E.J. Ourso College of Business Administration Dean Advisory Council, the Southeast Super-Region Committee, Roy O. Martin Lumber Company, Future Systems Incorporated, and Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area, as well as the advisory board for IBERIABANK.

In 2004, LSU’s E.J. Ourso College of Business recognized Bill's significant contribution in business, academia and the community and inducted him into the Hall of Distinction. In 2012, he received the Volunteer Activist Award from the Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation for his commitment of more than 40 years dedicated to philanthropy and volunteerism in the Baton Rouge area. Additionally, in 2012, he received the Chancellor’s Sesquicentennial Service Award, which seeks to honor individuals who have gone beyond the scope of their job or organization requirements to contribute their time and talents to LSU and the community in ways that benefit the common good.
